‘I put in a good day’s work today’
After four months without a job, Providence resident Eugene Carter was willing to make a career change for the sake of survival. “Money was getting really tight,” Carter, 30, recalled last week. “I almost lost my car.” But his crisis is over, thanks to an unusual job-training partnership between City Hall and an expanding Providence steel company that desperately needed workers. Keith D’Amico, left, another program graduate, is now working as a welder.
